2 Chances to See PRO3 Racing

If you’re interested in learning more about local club racing, and in particular PRO3, there are two excellent opportunities coming during August.
Most club or amateur racing in the Pacific Northwest happens under the auspices of the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs, better known as “Conference.” Member clubs sponsor individual races.
The Ridge
IRDC, the International Race Drivers Club, is the Seattle area club that will be sponsoring a weekend of racing August 23-24 at The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton. That’s the very same track we had our chapter’s July track day. The expectation is for a full grid of 25 or more E30s racing very closely. For those of you who have been to The Ridge, just think of 25 race cars charging down the straight, through Turns 1 and 2, and then crowding their way up the hill. It should be completely nuts and fun for spectators. Admission is free.
Everyone will have access to the paddock and can chat with the PRO3 drivers to learn whether this is the sort of bedlam you might like to join. There will be lots of other classes of cars racing, including Spec E46 if you’re interested in somewhat newer BMWs. Of course, there are open wheel classes, sports racers, Spec Miatas and much more.
NASCAR at Portland
If that’s not enough for you, PRO3 will also be running the following weekend, August 29 and 30, at Portland International Raceway. This won’t be part of Conference but instead is a support race for the NASCAR Infinity Portland. This isn’t free, but there will be professional racing and the chance to see NASCAR in the Northwest.
